I can tell you that Scatters exports WITH every instruction and then trials them horses against each other. In sprints and 1m races Im sure you dont want to be held up. Scatters has a LOT of handy types and he deliberately bred them that way. Each horse has its own preferable instruction, I dont think it would be a great idea to out a handy type on HU or vice versa. I've never gone to the extreme of trialing the same horse against itself with different instructions, but you cant argue with Scattters' strike rate. |

I never use jockey instructions it is a big advantage if you can find horses that run handy tho because they will never really get into any problems or run wide |

I don't use instructions when I play the game and based on their runs its pretty easy to see what type of instructions suit them best and export them accordingly. However lately I've been exporting horses without instructions, trialing them, and when I find something half decent export it again with instructions ie handy, handy challenge early, handy challenge later, don't lead, don't trail etc. When I trial them against each other sometimes there's not much difference between them and sometimes one is slightly better than the others, but what really surprised me was the one without instructions sometimes performed best of all. Most of my stable are race handy types which is fine for sprints but for longer races they can race a bit too freely and drop away quite dramatically in the final furlong or two so I think I will have to employ the "don't lead" instruction in future. |

When playing SO2 and SO3, I didn't export with instructions, and although I won my fair share, I also cost myself a chance for many more. The horses got lots of bad rides. You don't want to leave your horses in the hands of a numbnuts jockey, to decide it's faith. I always add one instruction now, usually "Race Handy", "Even Pace" or "Slight Hold Up". The only wrong instruction, is one which conflicts with your horses running style. Dabistan II is set to "Force The Pace", that's how he needs to be ridden. Risky, but paid off this week in a poor race. |
