Thank Sirius - I just backed your man Ben Melham on Malaguerra for a nice all the way win in the fourth. :-)

Good on you. Ben is such a good jockey.

"Ben's my man" goes back a few years ago when he won a run of the mill race. They interviewed the winning trainer and he proceeded to rip Jockey Stephen King or Baster a new a-hole for the terrible ride he gave his horse the race before. Was quite an interview and I have never seen such a post race interview ever. The trainer then yelled "Ben Melham's my man!"

The double payoffs with the Melbourne Cup show Who Shot Thebarman, Grand Marshall, Red Cadaeux and Hartnell getting bet very well. Trip To Paris and The Offer getting some action too.

If this was just another race and was choosing a winner by the odds alone and the double payoffs I would choose Red Cadeaux over Who Shot Thebarman.

Longest shot on the board? Almost. I tell you one thing Michelle Payne has been riding incredible lately.

I looked at Prince Of Penzance's last race and saw that surprise speed. I thought that he would either bounce off that or it was a huge sign of an improved effort coming. I picked wrong.

Gutted Max Dynamite just failed, little luck in running but that's the way of these big races.

Hope Red Cadeaux is ok, be horrible to lose him.

Pulled up alarmingly 50 metres from line, apparently he walked into the ambulance so hope he's ok.

3rd year in a row backing the horse that places 2nd after RC the last couple of years but that doesn't matter now. Praying he's alright.

Looking at the winners races coming into this and it's actually a beautiful pattern Darren Weir devised. The horse came back after a 287 day layoff on Aug 8th with a solid rally in a 7fur race. Then 3 non taxing but good races in progressively longer races. The 4th race back (his last start) they sent him from start to finish as a message to the horse to get ready next time. The Melbourne Cup.
