The news we so wanted to hear: Red Cadeaux is stabilised and his injury is rated "not life-threatening"

Best news of the day!!!! but 100-1 winner that was amazing Well done Michelle Payne!!!!!! also Frankie is in trouble after his ride on max dynamite, he caused alot of trouble.

Great news about RC, I never like criticising jockeys but it was a very poor ride from Dettori. He was in a decent position around the first bend but got boxed in and let the horse get swamped. Winner got first run and fair play to the female jock on board.

I think Frankie got caught up like a fair few jockeys did during the day as there was a perceived bias that the inside was the best going - and they weren't prepared to lose that spot.
In saying that.....and we all know Frankie is a world class jockey - my observations since The Cup becoming a world class event is that I think trainers and connections are better off with a top local jockey who understands the track and conditions (maybe Cup experienced) than bringing their local rider/s.

Any one heard any news about Red? It's seems to have gone quiet here so I guess no news is good news.
The last I heard was that they didn't operate and that they had put a splint on + some pain killers and that Red was walking around and eating grass and that the vets were going to consult international specialist about the best course of action for treatment and recovery.
A good month of Aussie spring weather will be very good for Red to relax in :-)

Ed Dunlop tweeted an hour ago that Red had a comfortable night and it's so far, so good.

Have to say I've never heard anything this severe before but connections of Trip to Paris are disappointed as most horses are sporting cuts to thier legs after the race. They said it appears it was a very rough race with jockeys so forceful of getting in the right positions that horses were treading on each other.

Very sad to hear if true, apparently the only horse in the quarantine yard that didn't require bandages on cut legs was Quest for More.

Fair call!

That's Aussie racing. When the big bucks are on the line, short cuts are made. I also think it was because of the track bias - the inside 10 metres were the place to be.

Seems like most of the raiders suffered some cuts and bruises. If track bias is so bad that horses are getting hurt like this then that takes some of the gloss of the race. Never like to see horses get hurt.

Here is one report from local press, it mentions it towards the bottom: http://bit.ly/1RtJjGo

Heart-breaking news coming in that unfortunately RC has had to be put to sleep after complications from his injury. As tough as they come and a horse that touched many, RIP big Red.
