Post Re: RIP Shared Belief
Will be sadly missed  A gorgeous race horse that could have had another 3 or 4 more season's in him considering he was a gelding. If only he hadn't run in that crap hole Charles Town.

He best run was his last but one race, he was a monster in the Santa Anita H'cap. I think it was the best performance of the year.

It was a really sad day yesterday for me because of not only Shared Belief but because of a horse called Khozan retiring, I thought he had the world at his feet after his first 2 races only not to run again, will never know how good he was.

Hopefully it will be the year of the Fillies.

Beholder could dominate the older division and Super Songbird could dominate the 3yo's.

And hopefully Lady Eli comes back, one of the best US grass horses in years. I think she's up there with Wise Dan in turn's of ability.

5 lengths is approximately 1 second. This is a rough estimate as horses can run at different paths on the course and at different speeds. Unlike in harness racing and quarter horse racing, only the winner's time is recorded in thoroughbred racing, making figuring out how fast a horse finished a race behind the winner very difficult. But the usual convention is 5 lengths to 1 second.

What would a second faster be? ~15.5 lengths? I know second place to Secretariat finished 2 seconds behind him, and that was a 31 length margin.

As Mj say's it's roughly between 0.18 sprint races and 0.20 for longer races.

Songbird was roughly a second quicker than Nyquist in the races they ran in.

The trainers come out and said she's not being aimed at the derby ( I think its a mistake) but if that's so then I hope she doesn't come out to early, a bit like AP.
