Can developer or someone explain groups and class?

Post subject:  Can developer or someone explain groups and class?
Maybe this is purely from ignorance of horse racing.I have searched everywhere to determine how and why horses are split into 3 groups. Classes seem to be based on quality level of horse being sought for the race. But I don't understand groups or classes. Do they work together? Do they effect each other? Thanks in advance for any clarity and help.

The HIGHEST class of horse is Group 1. This is the absolute best of the best.
The SECOND highest class of race is Group 2.
The THIRD highest class of race is Group 3.

Classic - Biggest races for 3 Year olds like the Epsom Derby or Kentucky Derby
Group 1 - The highest level for horses of all ages
Group 2 - 2nd level (Never many of these races though)
Group 3 - 3rd level The next step up the ladder if your horse wins at condition
or listed level and not quite good enough in group one company
Listed - For horses who are not quite good enough to compete in Group Company
Conditions/Allowance- Next step up the ladder from maiden/Novice company.
Novice - Similar to a maiden but race winners can run in them but will carry
more weight than horses making their debut or horses that remain winless
Maiden - The place 99% of horses make their debuts but horses who have never
won a race can enter these races.
Handicaps - The rating of your horse decides how much weight it has to carry
the higher the horse is rated the more weight it will carry. there are different levels of
handicap races depending on which bracket your horse fits to o to 60 up to 0 to 110
Seller - A race should you win your horse goes to auction but is ran the same as
most stakes races in terms of weight carried
Claimer - A race should you win your horse goes to auction you can set the weight

I'm still a bit confused by this, so I did little research and now I think that Class only applies to Handicap races and is reflected in the class range shown for the race. Group racing refers more to the size of the prizes offered--which should attract the highest class horses. What was throwing me was a (if I remember correctly) a Group 1 Class 2 race. I think that means the highest level of prize money but for the second best ranking of horses.

Why that is escapes me, however it does seem to exist.

In the UK, all group and listed races are Class 1.

Class 2 to Class 6 races can be handicaps, maidens, novice races and conditions races. Class 2 races are the level below group and listed races, with handicaps for horses rated up to 100, 105 or 110, and conditions, maiden and novice races for good quality horses, offering better prize money than the lower classes. Class 3 handicaps are for horses rated up to 90 or 95, and the rest of the scale basically follows the same pattern.
