Just want to be sure I understand the nuances of something. I really barely looked at the details of the total of a horse's winnings. However, I just had my first in-stable-bred horse win its very first run and looked at the winnings (as I really don't expect much from the horse after this). It shows the horse's lifetime earnings at: $7,067. However, under Finances and the entry for "Race prize money" it shows, $6,501. There's a Paddock/Star fee, but I don't think that comes out of the horses lifetime numbers and, beside, that $476 still doesn't add up to $7,067. Anyone know how this is calculated? Is the winning amount like, pre-tax or something? |

Has it been placed before? You pick up minor prize money for placings |

Not sure but does the jockey fee come out of the winnings. This fee maybe something like £100 + 8%. |

In response to the Placing question, no. As stated, this was the horse's first run in any race and it won so no other money was involved. The jockey fee seems possible. 8% of the purse of $7,067 is $565.36, which would take the amount down to $6,501.64. If you drop the cents then it's a match, but doesn't include the jockey flat fee (in this case like $80). So, that sounds like what happens. The jockey gets 8% of the purse and his fee comes out of the general stable fund. Thanks for working through that with me guys. |
