Post Starters orders 7 mobile help
Hi
I’ve just bought the new starters orders 7 game for the iPhone
Need some major help/advice
I’ve had a couple of goes on the game and I’m finding it pretty much impossible with the 100k you start with pretty much being in debt after a year, you start with two horses that are useless and the only races you can win with them are claimers or sellers resulting in loosing that horse, your finances go down a grand a week with the bills which cannot be covered even if your two horses win every race you enter them in which they don’t. One is usually a 2yr old that you need to be patient with the schedule suiting sprinters early in the season. I’ve had about ten bets on horses either favourites or fancied and I think one of them won.
Just wondering if there are any decent guides out there helping you to make money and lay the foundations down to get past the first year like what things to do first? what types of horses to purchase? Just any general help or tips or tricks that people have done to be successful making money and winning races
Hope to hear from anyone
Bob

I play on laptop not iPhone but will assume it is the same in order to try to help you........

Others no doubt will explain the well known money cheat, but I took the longer route. Start a new game and don't auto-run the seasons so that no horses have form. Bet on every single race ante post on every single horse quoted at 33-1 or better. No need to study them, just bet on them £100 each way. You will lose much more often than you win but at those odds the wins will seriously outweigh the losses in monetary return. You will see horses with a mark next to them that are long odds ante post but will be favourites at starting post. Bet £1000 each way on these. Again don't pick and choose - put money on them all. Don't miss a single one at a single meeting if you can help it. I did this and easily survived and eventually got a foothold in the game. Perhaps a bit of a cheat in itself but not like the other one.

What I didn't do (but now know I should have), was sell my original horses straight away in auctions, to get stable costs right down. Once you have that money, and even more from all those lovely bets coming in, buy the breeding barn. Once you build a bit more in the bank, buy mares as cheaply as you can and put them in the breeding barn. The bet winnings will still be coming in (I won over £1 million easily in year one) and send those mares to stud with the best you can afford. Oh and buy a few horses to race - these will not be world beaters but a few will give you some fun. And you don't need to 'lose' a horse in sellers/claimers - buy them back in the auction. You pay ten per cent of your winning bid. Sometimes you will pay more than you win but hey ho, you still have all that betting profit coming in. And maybe the seller winner will improve and pay you back later. And by season three you will have homebred horses to start running........and still have more in the bank than you started with. And sell the worst as unraced two year olds - the money you get will take you to another level.

I warn you, this route is laborious. But seeing those bets come in (no need to watch the races) and your bank account growing daily is nice, and a gentle intro to the game before you meet head on the challenges that await with training, racing and breeding. At this point you will have many more questions !!

Thanks for the advice
managed to fluke a few bets on the horses at big prices and managed to get to 300k
I’ve now bought the barn and have managed to get five breeding mares after a few skipped season selling the yearlings.
Got quite a healthy bank balance now and am able to breed with some of the top stallions
Just a few questions
1what shall I look for when breeding horses to try and produce the best foals
2 also wanting to train some horses and race them now so which yearlings will be most successful
Like what stats are best in the game for the horses to be top G1 level,
I’m guessing potential stamina and speed?
3 lastly any general tips when training horses to win
Hope to hear from anyone

There is no single answer to any of your questions without a 'war and peace' reply. SO7 is a tremendous sim, and very realistic. And just as nothing is guaranteed in life, nothing is guaranteed in SO7.

Don't get too deep into stats at an early stage, other than putting your horses into some kind of pecking order. The stats are guidelines. Some horses develop, some do not. Some achieve more than you would expect, others fall way short. In order to learn the game you need to start racing. Watch every race in which you have a runner. Take on board jockey comments. Use the breeding distances initially, and also make sure you run horses at their best time of year regarding going. Make notes. Identify plusses and minuses for each horse, as they will all be entirely different. Play through the seasons, adding more horses. Experiment on distance if a horse struggles. Don't judge too quickly - NH horses can often be 7yo before things click.

Get tuned into the idea that for every winner you will have 4 or 5 non winners. Even worse than that early on. A horse finishing 4th or 5th is not necessarily a dud if it is still learning its trade. Be ready for lots of disappointments and a few satisfying moments. Like real life horse racing. You can grow your stable and quality but it takes a lots of seasons - and progress is not easily measured. Don't throw in a game and start again when things don't go quite to plan. Just tinker with the way you have played the previous season.

One specific tip regarding your yearlings. As 2yo when they enter your race yard their stats drop, and return fully or partially at 3yo. You need to make notes at yearling stage to remember what their potential could possibly be.

And don't be too hung up early on getting a G1 winner. I guess some players can point you in the direction of 'tricks' to make that happen quickly but if you are looking for an immersive real life sim, do it the hard way. Race by race, season by season. And be ready for some shocking disappointments on the breeding front (although I understand easy level has recently been made easier so it may not take you as long as it did me to start getting some good home breds).

Overall just experiment - laugh and learn by your mistakes. There is no answer to anything - just slightly better practise and personal choice in how you want to play the game.

Hi thanks for the great response
Had quite a few seasons on the mobile now just wondering if anyone can help me on some more issues,
1) is there any stats for the jockeys? On the mobile version I usually go with O.Murphy with him being top jockey for G1s on my game but other that there there is no info or stats for jockeys unless I’ve missed it.
2) what are the most important stats out there when picking which 2yr olds to keep I’ve got a breeding barn with 40 mares now and I usually keep the ones with the highest potential, speed,? Is this what I should be doing?
3) any tips for not ruining 2 yr olds? And how to run them,I usually start them in 5f or 6f depending on there distance indicator usually in novices not maidens as they seem easier to win, if after 3 runs they are rated in 80-90s I try them in listed races but as I’ve read on some other threads they are very hard to win, so any tips on scheduling 2yr olds
Anyways hope to hear from anyone
Bob

1) not sure on the iPhone version - on the laptop there is a jockeys tab to click on which sorts them into a league table for the current season. I tend to develop a team of jockeys - about half a dozen for each code so I always have choices, though I try to keep horses and jockeys together when I can. After a while you start to take in which jockeys are better in the game than others.

2) Potential and speed yes, especially speed if you are concentrating on short distance flat racing. But don't forget hidden stats - finishing application is nice to have and extra speed and cruising burst is essential in sprints. The more you breed, the more you will identify bloodlines that have the traits you need. Also watch for low or non existent juvenile constitution - again if you are concentrating on a sprint game these horses will contribute little or nothing until 3yo. I have between 200 and 300 horses in my race yard in a combined flat and NH game, so I can always find room for a few late developers, but wouldn't want too many of them.

3) You are on the right lines - develop them logically and look at the declared runners ratings. Also be aware that you can develop a horses ratings as it wins lesser races, but sooner or later it will race against horses with graded breeding - if yours has G3 breeding but the others are all G1 that will be a hard race to win. So go for it but don't be disappointed with the likely result. Eventually you start sneaking the odd good win, and then have G1 breeding of your own to work with.

Hi

Not sure if I’m been thick but I can’t seem to find the ante post betting bit on the mobile version and like the original post can’t get past the first season without running out of money

Since the thread is three years old, I'm curious how far you've come in the game? Have you managed to crack the code for maintaining your finances while also training winners?
If you're still looking for some tips or a guide, you might want to check out betting platforms for insights on horse races. They sometimes provide analysis and stats that could help you understand what to look for in a horse in real life, which might translate to your gameplay. I recently came across a review about https://sportsbooks.ag/reviews/bookmaker/ that might be of interest to you. That being said, patience is key, especially with younger horses.
