The spread of maiden races for 2yo in the first half of the season seems to be greatly improved, starting with 5f maidens at the end of March, building up to 7f maidens by June, however, after this point maidens seem to be much fewer and further between. We could really do with some more 7f and 1m maidens in the second half of the season, with the odd sprint maiden still in there, and one or two 1m1f or 1m2f maidens from late September.

However, the big problem with 2yo races seems to be the random nurseries and conditions races, as they seem to be over a wide range of distances. I've even seen a 1m7f nursery for 2yo in spring! Strictly speaking, nurseries shouldn't appear until July, and they should start with 5-7f nurseries, building up in distance throughout the rest of the season. 2yos never run beyond 1m2f, and they wouldn't even tackle that distance until late September at the earliest.
