Post What is Jockey Rush?
JOCKEY RUSH is a budget priced spin off title where you play the jockey to be released on the PC initially via the website and hopefully steam green-light. Then the Mac and iOS. The game is aimed at the more casual player who may not be so interested in a management game or SO6 players who may want a more casual jockey option now and again. The hope is it might bring a few more players to SO6 and help boost funding for whatever comes next.

We are hoping to release Jockey Rush on iOS after desktop. Originally the hope was to release SO6 on mobile but there were significant problems. Firstly the game uses too much memory, secondly the race sequence would not run well and thirdly every screen would need a complete re-design.

Jockey Rush is a simplified game and contains a simplified schedule (only one meeting per day) and reduced databases (such as the number of horses in the game and a much smaller formbook and also less racecourses. This means it may run on the 1GB devices (iPad3 and later and iPhone5 or later). We are yet to confirm this. As jockey rush contains a fraction of the menu screens for SO6 the redesign headache is not such a problem. Optimisations have made it possible to run the race sequence on these mobile devices to a point. If Jockey rush works well enough on Mobile we can think about investing time in getting a version of SO6 on mobile too using a similar menu design. It is likely it would also have to use a cut down schedule and database.

The game works like this. Each day you receive a number of ride offers from trainers for the current day (based on your reputation level). The trainer has an expected finishing position for the horse. You study the form and if you think you can better that finishing position you accept the ride. Finishing above expectations will give you a reputation boost. Finish below means you lose reputation points. The higher the reputation the better rides in better races you get offered. There are also achievements to work towards. There is no betting!

There are a couple of gameplay extras including invoking a 'jockey rush' for extra rep points. This is done by finishing fast and late and not winning by too far. There is also an optional battle mode which adds punching and kicking to the mix (just like real racing!). The race sequence will be based on the SO6 sequence but with a different view.

Hopefully Jockey Rush will provide a route on to steam and give the games more exposure. As a more casual game it may be more suited to steam that SO6.

The priority remains developing the Starters Orders series. However, with all the individual courses and 3D engine and all the assets (and an extra developer) and planned online development it costs much more than ever before and requires more sales. The hope is jockey rush will boost funds and gain exposure.

The desktop game will be less than a tenner and owners of previous games will be offered a further reduction on release. It will be sale via the website and STEAM. Support for both the Oculus Rift and Steam VR is planned but cannot yet be confirmed.

In order to get onto STEAM and move this ahead we need to be GREEN-LIT. That means we need YOUR votes. If you have a STEAM account please VOTE for us. It will be difficult getting a horse racing game of any type on steam so we need your votes! Go here:
