I agree, but this has been going on for the entire time and you have been around long enough to see it..

Actually it barely happens. Twice since I began paying more attention. It's the rare occasion that I feel the need to open this can of worms.

Fair comments all round and yes it will always be a bone of contention, but there is G1 horses all but in name running in G3's this week, we know they are likely group one horses they just haven't won a G1 yet, so its a difficult one too police...

But anything to level the field is good, just asking horses not to run seems a bit naff.... all in my opinion of course and what a dull world it would be if we agreed all the time.... :P

I hope this dissent does not hurt the handicapping of my horses

I think Paul should enter his horse, I don't want to win a race when I know I only won it because the best trainers didn't enter it.
I only know how good my horses are when they run against all available horses in a particular race.
Every group win should be hard earned. But that's only my opinion.

I think Paul should run his horse, there are handicaps for those of us that don't have group horses and it is going to be carrying a penalty.
What if the runner up from the Dubai race was entered (it cannot due to the trainer being disqualified) as it was only beaten 1/2 length and would now be in receipt of weight. Should that also be excluded for being too good as in theory it would have a better chance.
If any of us get lucky and spot an "easy" race then fair play but it's a group race and we should expect the best to be there.
There is an issue with returning horses as the penalties are not carried forward, a multiple group 1 winner can start the following season with a clean slate and no penalties. This rarely matters and maybe difficult to implement but perhaps could be looked at.

In real racing some Group 3 and listed races are 'for horses that have not won a Group 1 race'. Maybe we could think about adding a series of these next season. Maybe one a week or one every fortnight over varying distances as one of the 'bonus races'.

This is a good idea and maybe the solution!

If a horse have competed over hurdles, is it then excluded from bumpers?

Novices can swap between the 2. My bumper entry this week has had a run over hurdles.

I have no problem with G1 winners entering G3 or Listed races.
If you can't beat a G1 winner in a listed race then maybe your horse isn't Listed class.
I like to see top class horses giving weight away and still winning, it makes them even more impressive.
I'm sure there could be Condition races set up to bar Group winners but the horses that were placed in Group races would probably clean these up anyway.
Just my thoughts but I don't expect everyone to agree, we never do.

I'd like a listed series, so there's lets say 3 listed races a week through the middle part of the season and everyone can run in them apart from horses that have finished in the top3 of a group1 races. So the middle horses have a chance to win races.

There used to be case of a group race only open to trainers outside the the top 10. I'm happy to write some code to allow 1 race or more a week from week 2 or 3 that could be say a group 3 or listed race only open to trainers not currently in the top 10.

If people are happy with this I can set up some code for this happen and Gray can hopefully add the races. This has the added benefit of giving the trainers that aren't doing well in a season something exciting to aim for
