Post Newbie question: using the gallops
HI all...probably the first of many questions from a newbie, and maybe answered before: I can see that using the gallops in training can give me clues to a horse's strengths and weaknesses; but does it actually make any difference to the training / fitness of the horses?

Grateful for any insights.

I don't think it makes any difference unless at the very beginning of the season when fitness levels are low or unless you are on simple training mode.

I have read that if you do enough of the jumping training that the horses jumping will improve, but I think that improvement took seasons rather than a matter of training sessions.

But it is great for trialling the young horses to see which ones might be superstars and which ones to sell.

If you want to play the NH there are a couple of threads lower down with lots of info about how to do well and how to get started.
