How many races should a horse race in one season?
Hi, I usually get my horses fit and race them in about 6 races over a 4 or 5 month period from season open in August through to about January at which poin theyv had enough and I rest them till August.
Is races in a year getting enough out of them? or should I be racing them further apart and getting more than 6 in a year?
Thanks in advance

Not sure there is a general rule of thumb here. All horses are individuals. Sprinters race regular stayers less so. Though thats not a 100% guidline either sorry.

I'd say flat race horses have anywhere between 4-9. But for the NH as some take ages to recover and others recover quite quickly I tend to tailor it to the horse more. It also depends where you're aiming that horse, if it's a Gold Cup horse you won't want to run it every month but if it's a handicapper you may want to run it more often as there are more opportunities in the big races for horses like that.

I was joking! Don't worry about it, but thanks . I don't mind joining in on the banter. It's usually lots more exciting than girly chat of who fancies who!
