My NH string has been all flat castoffs- and has been abysmal.

Yes but Paul probably has 20-50x the number of flat castoffs you have :).

Add to that, no matter how long anybody has played the game to get their league horses it is almost a certainty that Paul has still played at least twice as long for his. So the average ability of his flat cast offs will be a lot higher too. I would like for my horses to win more races in the league, but I'm pleased with how they have fared. Especially as they have surprised one or two people with the way they have run.

Even though I play in a flat game, most of mine are bred for jumping too. So my flat horses are really NH cast offs which either didn't jump or weren't as good as the NH horses.

Out of interest Paul, do you pick the NH horses to trial on jumping ability on the ability page or do you just trial them all irrespective of jumping ability and pick whoever is best?

I throw them all in and see what happens as in flat trialing the cream will always rise to the top
the most consistent type will always find their way through can't stress enough to people its not the fastest
trailers you want its the most consistent thats why my point system i think has helped me to success
the points system will always find your most consistent

i usually have 10 trials per distance at 5 different tracks 1 trial fast going and 1 trial soft going at each track
i then give the top 5 points
so 1st 6 2nd 4 3rd 3 4th 2 5th 1

once you have finished the trials you tally up scores & end up finding your most consistent horse on any going or any track
well thats how i do it anyway

here is an example of my recent trials for season 2 here is a spotlight on how a horse has done

Lythical 3yo C 14f (10 Trails 6 wins 42 pts)
From the family of Daring Truth last season Yorkshire Cup & multiple group winning stayer in the league Lythical is also
related to Versions of the Truth & Truth or Lie both members of last terms team. Top class stayer won 6 trials and
is freakish in ck high hopes.

so Lythical won 6 trials and scored 42/60 Points so is ultra consistent on any going or track

Yeah, but I'm talking about NH Paul. Hence the NH breeding thread!

Do you choose a horse for NH trials on jumping ability or do the same thing and throw them all in?

Your way is more or less how I've trialed mine too. But for NH I only pick horses with good jumping ability and with his jump speed potential. Just wondered how you did it.

any horses that don't make the flat team all trial over jumps (All of them)

so if i had to look at every horses jumping ability it would take forever
i just chuck them all in the deep and and see if they can swim
