Re: Titles
HurricaneRun wrote: We try to make this league a simulation of real life racing with the schedules, the commentaries, the betting etc. And in real life racing, the championships are decided on prize money alone. Jockey title yes, that goes on wins and for that reason you see De Sousa jetting off all over the place to collect wins on the AW evening meetings as well as at all of the main turf meets as well. Trainers like Gosden, O'Brien, Henderson, Mullins etc all go for the big prize money as that is what decides a top trainer.
So i'll vote on that but also say that at the very least, if wins are factored in that should be to share a title. Or have two, one for most wins and one for most prize money, with an undisputed title if someone wins both. I'm new to the league again after so many years away so not sure how it was decided last season but my belief was that it was shared on flat and won outright by Leon in the NH?
If we wanted to change that approach for the new season it should have been done before week one, as having a vote on it after week one - and coincidentally a week where Leon has rinsed Dubai and taken a huge early lead - feels a little unfair. Agree not right doing this after Meydan when some peoples judgement could be clouded Personally I'm easy what ever the majority decide. but agree should have been done before or at the end of the season. I know you were just canvassing opinion Josh Last season I pulled my horse out of one of the richest races of the season so everyone else could get a run - I see any championship as a pure bonus certainly not ruled by it does not even come into my thinking when I'm planning the season. For me i Plan by each horse & what I can hope to achieve with each of them. Also always got enjoyment out of seeing rookies and fairly new trainers doing well.

Re: Titles
I am in the win camp, it is the only clear way, I accept that people may then hunt wins or try and get a lower handicap mark but how is that outside of the rules if the handicap system is effective, and it stops the debate about race value. The GN usually decides the prize money on the hunt along with the GC.
I only raised it as Ryan considering himself top on the NH after week one whereas I see Leon and I sharing top. So I thought we should get some clarity.

Re: Titles
And I wasn't having a go by the way, just saying that we should decide all things like this before the league begins - or just do it the same as previous season.
I just mentioned being top of NH as when i first click on the 'logs' tab it shows me at number 1; which I know will be the first and last week i'm placed there, no matter whether its on wins, money, or combined!!

Re: Titles
I think it should mirror real life, therefore prize money. Maybe award a secondary title for wins.
I won the Dubai WC last year and still finished 9th on prize money, so that shows there isn't a problem with it being based on money.
Wins would be unfair to horses and trainers who have lots of good 2nd and 3rd places but have not had the luck of winning races.

Re: Titles
Sounds to me like either two championships or a shared approach is the way to keep everyone happy.
Someone who has most wins and prize money can be the undisputed champ.

Re: Titles
We really cant be deciding things by a single vote, I think unless there is a real majority for one or other then it has to be left as is.
At the moment 6 people will be happy and 9 not, so hardly makes it something the majority of the league want......
P.s outside of the top 4-5 trainers I doubt anyone really is that concerned.

Re: Titles
That may well be true, but as it is may also be a matter of perspective. By week 3 or 4 I am generally past caring anyway, don’t knock my enthusiasm whilst it lasts.

Re: Titles
some of you will remember when it was changed and why keith beaky won the title with 28 winners AKHC (andy) had 81 winners totally ludicrous that a stable that totally dominated and i mean dominated didn't win the title because of the melbourne cup.

That wouldn't happen now. There are a lot more valuable races now. In those days it was just Dubai and Melbourne Cup and Andy had not one 4yo in his stable so reallly was his own fault. But the schedule has been changed now so that won't happen again. In any case just sort the trainer title by whatever you prefer

These are just some of the big prize money races. And there are loads of others in the 2 and 3 millions. You will need a balanced stable to do well in all these races and even placing in the Everest for example will be good money

Re: Titles
Going off the results Josh, shared is best way to go - or an individual title for each unless someone wins both and is overall champ.
Shared (joint most votes) means both wins and money matter which is the best way to please those who voted for wins or money.

No intention in taking the jam out of your doughnut Josh I have aired my views on allowing polls to dictate the future of the league many times, especially when a single vote is being used to decide, the thing is too close to call. All has run well enough for the past umpteen seasons, do we need to fix something that is not broken ? Where's the President when you need him
