Re: Season 18 Trainers Post Race Discussion and Thoughts
Strong day 2, 2 wins and a second on the flat.
WING HAWK unexpectedly flew home over a distance I assumed was far too short, it's not often I get a middle distance winner so very happy with this one. Questions now over whether we go for a Derby tilt, or save for Royal Ascot.
REICHFALL was always well fancied for a step up and trip, at Ascot and on such a low mark from last year. Made up for injury in this race last year, Gray's horses as always very tough to beat in the staying races. Ascot Stakes is the prime target now.
I expected a strong showing from Leipzig Lady, but didn't expect something to be that well handicapped against her, she'll have her day at somepoint this season.
Texas Gin and Hell Soul both ran well in the Suffolk, Texas Gin will need rattling fast ground to support her from the front style and Hell Soul will need a step up in trip as stayed on well.
Nothing to report from the Jumps side

Big shock for me. Never won the guineas before so a massive shock that I managed that. Stable is going ok so far considering how old most of my horses are. Bull in the China Shop has given me motivation to geta few season under the belt

But don’t over look potential or underestimate its effect. I think it’s the lesser of the three on the flat as long as your 95% or above, but in the NH it’s a big differential, especially for consistency which is how I measure my NH horses. Yeah, couldn't agree more with this. Of course just getting them all nailed on 100 pot, 100 Speed an 8-+ cruise just sorts that problem It's amazing how quickly I've been dragged back in, definitely thought I'd struggle this season more than I am, an didn't have time to play any more. Couple of winners an a chat around stats, go back to the game an find something small that will improve your horses going forward, an suddenly right back into it

Over the moon with my first ever Grade1 with Miami Broadhurst. I might actually have a horse that can make the Top 5 in the Gold Cup!

And the material difference between first and last on your trial sheets, or mine or any top trainer, is infinitesimally small with all the race variables that come into play for the league. I started my new flat game last night

I had 100 potential and 100 speed , and around 75 cruise. I know breeding for the league can do u head in but the good thing about the game is u can breed many different ways . I can't work my jumpers out, sometimes they run well and sometimes out. After 3 weeks I still cant work out how much ability they have, apart from my 4+ horses who are pretty decent.

One bad race does not make a bad horse, just as one horse entered can ruin your horses chances in a particular race. I look at it holistically, if the team area can win a race then any horse in that area can also win one. It’s a long season

The thing I hate about breeding and the game generally is the breeding RNG, and it’s never ending quest to degrade everything whilst never, or nearly never, actually having a freak enhancement. If it were real racing then all the best horses would have been in the 1700’s and what we see now would be cart horses dragging their asses around ascot and Cheltenham

Since I brought my jumpers back I've always struggled over 3 miles, my first two weeks were awful this season . A little better this week with almost winning a novice until falling at the last and finishing 2nd in the grade 1. Was that real form or just lucky .

It’s actually terrible game design, I can get that mark does not really care about the league players or league play, though he should as we provide him free marketing, but even the game in isolation has no longevity. It’s like my 2m hurdlers, deep down I know I will never consistently beat the hooley monsters as he has something I simply can’t get no matter what I do. Time and luck as always.

I started my new flat game last night I love the feeling of starting a new game, the initial few seasons looking for the stats, realising what you can turn it into, then by about 8 to 20 seasons I never want to play the game again, then it becomes good again I tend to the think the longevity in the game as a whole is just competing with yourself. It becomes way too easy to master the actual game. Probably just about doing random stuff like winning a Champ Hurdle an Gold Cup with the same horse. Doing all kinds of mad stuff on the flat. Think I got 34 from 35 with a horse once. He was the first horse I entered in the league about 20 odd years ago or whatever it was. Still remember the name 'We Won Dalglish' Different forums an everything back then Had about 30 group1 wins in the game, an was placed in a 0-80 in the league an tailed off most weeks. Back then I genuinely thought that's how you done it too I think I could still enjoy going the long haul on a normal game for that kind of stuff, new adventures with horses, breaking all your own records etc. Just need to accept it wont be realistic I think

One of the things I love is when a horse shines in a trail, it makes all u hard work worth while. The worst thing is when u come away from u trails and its a mess.

U get to about 30 and think nows the time to really start improving them and that's fun. Over jumps my start up game has to have a few front running stallions.

Yeah I mean, I think this is the dangerous thing about ultimately placing your 100% focus on your save around league racing. I think great horses are a consequence of passionate and dedicated gameplay - I think it's too easy to make rash decisions if every decision you make is centred around your league exports because ultimately it makes you speed run the process as opposed to just enjoying it.
