I could have run some in high grade handicaps say 85-100 rated instead..
I know we have low grade handicaps at the moment but high grade handicaps will help those trainers who lose out in oversubsribed maidens..
When the schedule was created, I don't think anyone had estimated the amount of trainers, horses and runners per race that the Uk league has got. There are numerous 0-100 or 0-110, I think there are even one or two 0-120 races but all those are more frequent towards the second half of the season. Maybe one or two -90 races in the next week or two could be increased to incorporate horses struggling to find suitable races because they are rated over 90 but the idea I had when handicapping week 1 was to force the horses who performed at the top level, ie 93+ ratings to look at feature races, be that Listed or Group company or wait for suitable handicaps, and for everything else to try and find their feet in the early season handicaps available.
I like the idea of having minimum ratings to qualify for races, instead of 0-???, especially when you look at some of the entries for races in week 2 and think that may well help the congestion in some races but it's not my call, I can only second your suggestion. It's possible the maidens may be split into two divisions again until a solution is settled upon.
