I'd recommend trialing your horses on soft going mainly and a few on good to soft to find your best horses for your NH team. Some races maybe on good or even good to firm(rare) but overall the NH league is run on soft or even heavy going.

I would use some sort of pacemaker, but you dont want it going too quick. Can someone advise what the average pace would be in the NH league?

Last year I only trialled on good ground, changed it up for this season. I reckon about 30 seconds is a nice pace, perhaps a little quicker for 2 m hurdlers.

at start mine went abut 27 mph for a few strides
but on average they going between 30 to 32 mph

if you use a pacemaker they take you through first few furlongs in 33 - 36 mph too quick false results

I have no idea about actual figures for pace in the NH league. But a problem I found which was frustrating was that it wasn't one thing or another. Often in the shorter races (2m-~2m4f) they would go off at about a million miles an hour then suddenly slow the pace after about a mile or 1m2f, then quicken it again at about 4f out. Mine were mostly handy horses and often got murdered by this, but it was what the jockeys wanted to do. However, in the 3m chases my handy horse did really well because they seemed to go a decent pace for the whole race those who were strong enough kept going and mine often got mugged on the line! The long distance races had no pace at all so a hold up horse would often pull its way to the front and my even pace ones quite often ended up far too close to the lead.

Whilst this is a racekit thing, it is also to do with the type of horses people have bred. Everyone seemed to have even pace horses, there were even quite a few hold up ones last season. Whereas I had bred for handy horses who often tired in the last few furlongs. Last season was a lot more fair in the NH pace-wise (I thought) so I have no idea what people will be attempting to breed this time around.

I know you disagree/differ in opinion, but I really think consistency and fast, accurate jumping is the key and time is not that important. I don't have bumper horses and at this rate I won't even be entering this season. But if you can get a fast, accurate jumper it will nearly always be upside or beat a faster horse on the flat.

I have hold up slight hold up even and Race handy horse's only ones I don't get is Force The Pace horses I just breed my best horse's and don't worry what racing instructions I end up having in the league
